An Inverse method for determining fabric permeability in vacuum assisted resin infusion for composite parts forming

Abstract. Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion (VARI) method employs a mould on top of which number fabric pieces are laid up and impregnated by resin drawn through vacuum. Simulation VARI depends the determination permeability. In this work, permeability value is selected from set discrete values genetic algorithm. An impregnation simulation model run ComsolTM to compute flow front propagation inside fabric. The algorithm compares evolution (propagation) front, in space time dimension, with corresponding result one single actual experiment, obtained machine vision. A simple part suffices for experiment assuming homogenous porosity. computational cost low, making it superior experimental expensive custom-made devices.
